LPG Gas Cylinder Subsidy: In a bid to gain public support ahead of the assembly elections in Rajasthan, the Ashok Gehlot government has launched the ‘Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Scheme’. Under this scheme, the government guarantees to provide gas cylinders at a subsidized rate of Rs.500 to the people of the state. To avail this benefit, consumers need to register themselves.
The scheme came into effect on 1st April and has already benefited around 14 lakh consumers. In a recent event, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot transferred Rs.60 crore to the bank accounts of these consumers. As part of the scheme, individuals can avail a total of 12 cylinders per year at the subsidized rate of Rs.500. Any additional cylinders beyond this limit will be charged at the normal price.
The subsidy amount has been issued to those who purchased cylinders for the months of April and May. Through the Indira Gandhi Gas Cylinder Subsidy Scheme, the government aims to provide relief from inflation to approximately 76 lakh families in Rajasthan.
To benefit from the scheme, consumers need to purchase the cylinders at the market rate. For instance, if a cylinder costs Rs.1103, the consumer will have to pay the full amount. The government will then reimburse the difference between the actual cost and the subsidized rate of Rs.500. In this case, the state government will provide Rs.603 to cover the remaining amount above Rs.500.
