Vande Metro: Indian Railways is consistently striving to enhance the facilities provided to passengers, and the Vande Bharat Train stands as a testament to this commitment. Over the past few months, the Railways has successfully introduced the Vande Bharat Train in several states, aimed at offering improved travel experiences.
In a recent development on May 18, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat Train in Odisha. This marked yet another significant milestone in expanding the reach of the Vande Bharat Train. Moreover, alongside the Vande Bharat Train, the Railways is now gearing up to introduce the Vande Metro, a new venture that holds great promise.
Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has unveiled details regarding a new route for the Vande Metro, shedding light on the state where it will be launched.
Vande Metro is Coming Soon to this State
Ashwini Vaishnav has revealed that after the successful introduction of the Vande Bharat train, Odisha might soon receive another remarkable gift—the Vande Metro. The Railways is planning to launch the Vande Metro between Puri, Bhubaneswar, and Cuttack, offering a convenient and efficient mode of transportation. It is expected to commence operations in early 2024, around January-February.
What is the Vande Metro?
The Vande Metro is essentially a smaller version of the Vande Bharat train, designed to connect cities with shorter distances. The government included this train in the 2023-24 budget announcement. This train will bridge the gap between cities within a 100 km radius. The Railways intends to operate the Vande Metro in large cities, covering distances of approximately 50 to 60 kilometers, where a significant population resides. It follows the successful model of the Vande Bharat train.
Providing Premium Local Train Facilities
The Railways aims to offer top-notch amenities to passengers aboard the Vande Metro. This train will greatly benefit individuals commuting daily from nearby cities to larger urban areas for work. Passengers can expect world-class facilities during their journey, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable experience.
Puri-Howrah Vande Bharat
On May 18, Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the 17th Vande Bharat train in the country, marking Odisha’s first one. The train, connecting Howrah to Puri, offers a swift travel experience, completing the journey in just 6.25 hours. This new service not only facilitates seamless travel but also strengthens the connection between two major tourism cities, Howrah and Puri.
