Road Development Plan for Maharashtra Centre for Urban Research
In order to cater to the increasing traffic volumes, Government of Maharashtra has envisaged large scale improvement measures including widening and strengthening of pavements, enhance speed and safety of traffic movement and railway over bridges at level crossings. To meet with the investment requirements, Government of Maharashtra has decided to attract private sector participation through enabling framework.
Some of the major road development initiatives existing/ on-going/ envisaged up by state government include: . Improvement of Nagpur-Aurangabad-Sinnar/Nashik-Ghoti-Mumbai to National Highway Standards
- It involves upgradation of Mumbai-Nashik stretch to Expressway standards, with six/eight lane configuration
. Bandra-Worli Sea Link Project
- It involves construction of Eight-Lane Link exclusively for fastmoving vehicles
- Offers enhanced connectivity between western suburbs and the island city of Mumbai
- At present, this project is under implementation. Package-1,2,3 are completed and construction of main bridge is in progress
. Bhivandi-Kalyan-ShilPhata Project
- Major Linkage connecting NH-3, NH-4 near Bhivandi and offers connectivity to NH-8 through the State Highway-42 (Thane-Ghodbunder) which is being widened.
- Four-Lane Divided Carriageway to implemented on BOT basis
- Total Cost of Project is INR 228 Crore.
- At present, detailed feasibility study is being carried out
. Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (Nhava-Sewri Sea Link) Project
- Offers enhanced connectivity to JNPT, Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Airport/ SEZs
- Total Cost of Project is INR 4000 Crore
- Detailed Feasibility Study is being carried out
. Western Freeway Sea Link Project
- Connects Bandra with the heart of Mumbai, Nariman Point, 13.75km
- Detailed Engineering Design is in progress
. Widening and Strengthening of Satara-Chalkewadi-Patan Road
- Offers connectivity to Wind Energy projects at Chalkewadi and Vankusawade.
- Serves as spine road for the Mahabaleshwar Hill Station Project
- Total Length of the project stretch is 64km
- Project is completed in 2001
. Other Projects viz.
- Integrated Road Development Projects for Aurangabad, Pune, Solapur.
- Construction of Flyovers at 50 locations in Mumbai as part of Mumbai Traffic Improvement Mega Project
- Railway Over Bridges Project, includes 29 ROBs
- Widening of Jogeshwari-Vikhroli and Santacruz-Chembur Link Roads.
