The western wing of Golden Quadrilateral Corridor connecting Delhi with Mumbai, comprising NH-8, 76 and 79 and spread over a total length of 1419km, has been developed to 4/6-lane divided carriageway standards in December, 2005 under the Phase I of NHDP. This alignment constitutes 'Access-Controlled Expressway' between Ahmedabad and Vadodara. In addition, the envisaged access controlled expressway between Delhi-Gurgaon is under construction.

Further, NHAI has decided to widen all the stretches of Golden Quadrilateral corridors including the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Kolkata connectivity to six-lane NH standards under Phase-V of NHDP. This work is expected to be completed by 2012. NHAI is also considering construction of expressways between Gurgaon-Jaipur and Vadodara-Mumbai under NHDP Phase-VI which are expected to be completed by 2015.
